How is the present perfect continuous tense formed?

The present perfect continuous tense is formed by using has/have with been and the -ing form of the verb.

Example: I/We/They have been ___ing
He/She/It has been ___ing

When is the present perfect continuous tense used?

The present perfect continuous tense is used for things that started in the past and continue in the present.

What are some examples of present perfect continuous tense?

Examples: Hannah has been studying English for five years.
 
I have been living in Los Angeles for ten years.
 
They have been playing basketball for an hour.
 
Note: The present perfect continuous tense is not used with stative verbs such as like, know, or believe. The present perfect tense is used with these verbs instead.
 
So, we cannot say, “He has been liking that band since he was young.” We would say, “He has liked that band since he was young.”
